I Witness: Part Four
Trust Fall with God: Embracing Faith and Witnessing His Goodness
Life can feel like a series of trust falls—moments when we must let go of control and fall back, relying entirely on the unseen hands of God. Yet, for many of us, trust doesn’t come easily. Trusting God means surrendering control, embracing humility, and witnessing His faithfulness unfold in every area of life. This powerful journey begins when we step out in faith and recognize that God is trustworthy in all things.
The Meaning of Trust Beyond Faith
Faith is believing in God, but trust is acting on that faith. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Trust is the step that moves faith from a concept to a lifestyle. It’s about handing over every aspect of our lives—finances, relationships, careers, and dreams—to God’s perfect plan, even when the details are unclear.
In Matthew 14, Peter took a literal step of trust when he walked on water. He didn’t ask for evidence or practice in a safer environment. He stepped out, and the miracle happened only after he trusted. Similarly, our miracles often lie on the other side of our willingness to act on faith.
Surrendering Control to God
The challenge for many believers is surrendering control. Trusting God feels risky, especially when past hurts or disappointments create barriers. But God’s Word reminds us that His plans are always good. Jeremiah 29:11 assures us: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
When we try to control everything, we miss the joy and peace that come with trusting God’s sovereignty. Just as Peter experienced Jesus lifting him out of the water when he faltered, God’s grace is always there to catch us when we take steps of faith. Releasing control doesn’t mean life will always be easy, but it does mean we’ll have the assurance of His presence and provision.
Humility: The Key to Trust
True trust requires humility. To trust God fully, we must lower our egos and acknowledge our limitations. First Peter 5:6-7 emphasizes this beautifully: “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”
Humility isn’t about thinking less of ourselves but about thinking of ourselves less. It’s a posture of submission, recognizing that God’s wisdom far exceeds our understanding. In moments of doubt, we can be encouraged by the stories of faith in the Bible. For example, Sarah laughed at the promise of bearing a child in her old age, but God reminded her: “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” (Genesis 18:14). Her laughter of unbelief eventually turned into joy because she witnessed God’s faithfulness.
Witnessing God’s Goodness
Trusting God allows us to witness His goodness firsthand. But this begins with acknowledging His past faithfulness in our lives. In times of doubt, reflect on what He’s already done. Scripture says: “Give thanks to the Lord, for His love endures forever” (2 Chronicles 20:21). Gratitude cultivates a heart of trust and opens our eyes to His ongoing work in our lives.
Sharing these testimonies strengthens not only our faith but also the faith of others. In a community of believers, hearing stories of financial provision, restored relationships, and healing serves as a powerful reminder of God’s power and love. As we proclaim what God has done, we become living witnesses of His glory.
Building Trust Through Scripture
Many of us struggle to trust God fully because we don’t fully know Him. Reading and meditating on His Word reveals His character and promises. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
God’s Word is not just a guidebook but a lifeline, offering peace that surpasses human understanding. When we immerse ourselves in Scripture, we develop a deeper relationship with God, enabling us to trust Him more. Like the layers of a trust fall, each verse we read reinforces our confidence in His goodness.
Taking the First Step
Trust begins with small steps. Instead of waiting for a perfect plan, act in obedience today. Whether it’s serving in your community, seeking God in prayer, or letting go of a specific worry, every step you take strengthens your trust in Him. Remember, “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33).
As believers, we must also encourage one another. The church is a place where we can practice sharing our faith stories and building trust within the body of Christ. By witnessing each other’s faith journeys, we see that if God can move in someone else’s life, He can do the same for us.
Trust and Witness
Trusting God transforms our lives. It moves us from fear to faith, from control to surrender, and from doubt to belief. As we trust Him, we become witnesses of His goodness, spreading His love and truth to the world around us.
Take a moment today to reflect on how you can trust God more deeply. What area of your life needs His touch? Surrender it to Him and step out in faith. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5). When you trust Him, you’ll see His miracles unfold, not only in your life but also in the lives of those you inspire.
Let’s continue to walk this journey together, trusting God fully and witnessing His incredible love in action.
