Kingdom Come
Discover the Transformative Power of Surrendering Every Area of Your Life to Jesus
Surrender isn’t just a one-time decision; it's a daily choice to allow God’s will to take precedence over our own desires. As we reflect on Matthew 6:10, where Jesus teaches us to pray, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven,” we are reminded of the importance of letting God reign in our hearts, bringing peace, joy, and wisdom into our daily lives.
Why God's Will Is Always Better Than Our Own
We all have plans and dreams, but when we pray for God’s will to be done, we acknowledge that His plans are far better than anything we could imagine. The Bible teaches that when we surrender our will to God, we open the door to His blessings and guidance.
As Psalms 103:19 says, “The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.” God’s sovereignty extends over every part of our lives, and He knows what is best for us.
Surrendering to God’s will may not always be easy. Our human nature often resists letting go of control. However, as we grow in faith, we learn that God’s ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:9), and His plans are designed for our ultimate good (Jeremiah 29:11).
This surrender is not about losing ourselves, but about gaining the fullness of life that God has intended for us. Jesus Himself modeled this surrender in the Garden of Gethsemane when He prayed, “Not my will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42).
How to Hear God's Voice and Discern His Will
One of the most profound aspects of our faith journey is learning to hear God's voice and discern His will. Two key elements for discerning God’s will are a love for God’s Word and a relationship with the Holy Spirit.
God’s Word is the ultimate guide for our lives. As Psalms 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” The Bible reveals God’s will for us, and by immersing ourselves in scripture, we align our thoughts and actions with His truth.
Alongside the Word, the Holy Spirit acts as a personal guide, helping us navigate specific situations in our lives. Jesus said in John 16:13, “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth.” It is through this relationship with the Holy Spirit that we can hear God’s voice clearly.
There are many voices vying for our attention, from our own desires to the world’s temptations. But when we consistently seek God in prayer and scripture, we can filter out these distractions and focus on the one voice that truly matters.
The Holy Spirit leads us into peace and confidence, showing us the right path even when we are uncertain.
The Difference Between Being Saved and Fully Surrendering to Christ
There’s an important distinction between being saved and fully surrendering to Christ. Salvation is the incredible gift of eternal life that we receive when we accept Jesus into our hearts, but surrender goes beyond this initial step.
To fully surrender means to let Jesus be Lord over every part of our lives—not just our eternal future but our present as well.
Many people stop at salvation, holding back areas of their lives from God’s rule. This is often called living as a "carnal Christian." These individuals are saved but still live by their own will, not allowing Jesus to truly reign in their lives.
Full surrender requires us to step off the throne of our hearts and let Jesus take His rightful place as King. As Matthew 16:24 reminds us, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” This daily act of surrender is where true transformation begins.
Practical Steps to Experiencing God's Peace in Your Daily Life
Surrendering to God brings with it incredible benefits—chief among them is peace. When we let go of our need to control and trust God with every detail, we experience a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Here are practical steps to experiencing that peace in your daily life:
Daily Prayer and Surrender: Each day, start with a simple prayer asking God to guide your steps and align your will with His. As Matthew 6:33 encourages, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” When we put God first, everything else falls into place.
Trust in God’s Provision: Life’s challenges can make us anxious, but Jesus reassures us in Matthew 6:25-34 that we do not need to worry about tomorrow. When we trust in God’s provision, we are freed from the burden of trying to figure everything out on our own.
Casting Your Burdens on Jesus: In Matthew 11:28, Jesus invites us to bring our burdens to Him: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Take time to identify the areas of your life where you are carrying unnecessary burdens and give them to Jesus.
Meditate on Scripture: Fill your mind with God’s promises. When life becomes overwhelming, go back to the Word and meditate on scriptures that remind you of God’s faithfulness, like Isaiah 26:3: “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”
Community and Accountability: Surround yourself with fellow believers who can encourage you and hold you accountable in your walk with Christ. Together, you can build each other up and remind one another of the joy that comes from living in God’s will.
Surrender and Receive Heaven’s Joy
Surrendering to Jesus is not a one-time event but a lifelong journey of trust and obedience. When we allow God to take control of every area of our lives, we experience His peace, joy, and wisdom in ways that we never thought possible.
As we continue to seek His will above our own, we unlock the fullness of life that Jesus promised: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10).
Take a moment today to reflect on any areas of your life where you may still be holding back. Invite Jesus to reign fully, and watch as He transforms your life from the inside out. The kingdom of God is not just a future promise; it is a present reality for those who fully surrender.
